About Boston University International Programs

One of the first universities in the country to send students abroad, Boston University International Programs is the premier study abroad provider in the United States. Over the past 25 years, more than 16,000 students from approximately 400 colleges and universities have participated in Boston University’s study abroad programs. This year, over 2,100 students have chosen to study abroad with Boston University International Programs.

Boston University was founded as an inclusive institution, admitting students of both sexes and every race and religion since into our inception in 1869. We are the first university to offer admission to women to all programs; first in the United States to award a PhD to a woman; and first in the United States to award a degree in theology to a woman.

The University's commitment to educational access was not limited to gender only; among its many illustrious alumni we count Charles Eastman (Ohiyesa), the first Native American to graduate with a doctorate in Medicine, and Martin Luther King Jr., who graduated with a PhD degree from the University. Today, we are committed to continuing that tradition of inclusiveness and currently enroll the eighth largest international population of any major US university.

Boston University International Programs is best known for internship programs, which combine coursework with pre-professional experience. With over 4,000 active internship sources worldwide, internship placements are personalized for each student and are available in a wide variety of settings such as advertising and marketing firms, fine arts organizations, film, television, public relations and journalism outlets, law firms, NGOs and social service organizations, political parties, and management and finance corporations.

From our innovative science, engineering, and health programs to our more traditional language and liberal arts programs, Boston University International Programs offers over 80 programs in over 20 countries around the world. Among the locations available, we have programs in Argentina, Australia, China, Ecuador, England, France, Germany, Guatemala, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Niger, Peru, Senegal, Spain, and Switzerland as well as unique opportunities in Los Angeles and Washington, DC.

Our experienced and supportive staff, on-site abroad as well as on-campus in Boston, are eager to work with you in the program of your choice. We invite you to live, intern, and explore with Boston University during your semester, summer, or academic year abroad
